We thought we should give you more background about how we met and came to live here in Boston together.
One good thing came out of working for Nautilus: the people we met and the friends we made. In 2003, we were in San Francisco at the IHRSA show. Patricia was in from Europe and didn't really have anything to do seeing as there's really nothing for a European marketing person to do at an American tradeshow. Besides, the hard-working, fantastic pair of Tina Beebe and Tracey Harvey took care of everything. And Jean, well, she was just bored and fed up with all the sleazy salespeople approaching their booth and needed to get away. So somehow it happened that they decided to leave the show and get lunch.
Lucky for them, the closest place was a japanese restaurant. There was much more sake consumption than sushi consumption taking place, and they bonded over their shared boredom and aggravation at the IHRSA tradeshow. When they returned to the tradeshow floor, the show was over and Kevin Lamar was presenting his end of the day awards for best salesperson on the floor. Patricia won, and received $100 and lots of praise for her hard work. (?)
But the relationship ended shortly after when Patricia left Nautilus to return to playing professional basketball in Switzerland.
The years passed and Patricia moved on to work for SpringBoost (i.e. an athletic Earth Shoe for the older crowd), and Jean, well, there are too many jobs to include in this short space. Jean moved in with her mother last March in Holden (!) and Patricia ran into Susan Dibiase from Nautilus at a European tradeshow. She mentioned to Susan that SpringBoost was relocating to Boston, to which Susan replied, "Jean's in Boston!" Well, Holden (!) really, but who's counting.
And there you have it.
We'd like to say that we're taking Boston by storm and shaking up the town, but considering last night we went to Whole Foods for dinner and then watched Little Miss Sunshine on On Demand (what a great movie, huh?), who're we fooling? It's cold here and the parking sucks and until we figure out how to get to the city without having to brave the elements, at least one of us isn't going far. And we think you can guess who that one is.
Subsequent postings may include, but are not limited to, Patricia's adventures in the city and Jean's lamenting about everything Massachusetts.
Coming up...The alcoholic, brain damaged neighbor tries to get into our apartment - again.
