Living A Historical Moment

I feel inspired. Tomorrow will set the tone to the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign. Tomorrow will be will the start of a New Era for America and consequently for the World.
America desperately needs a new leader and for the first time in the history of the United States, a Woman and a Black man stand a chance. They stand a chance because neither has risen to fight their minority’s cause but because they have the right agenda and they have the leadership needed to be President of the United States.

Although the world has already known countless powerful women - (think of all the Queens that ruled the Western world, think of Angela Merkel in Germany, think of Gondoleeza Rice) electing a woman president of the United States would make a powerful statement to equality. And you know I believe in the power of Woman and I get frustrated often enough at how unequally we are treated in the work place and at home. Not enough is done anymore to reach a balance. We, women, are sitting on our laurels. We have reached an acceptable and somewhat comfortable position in society, so we no longer work hard to get equal pay, to have better help from our husbands at home (how many women work full time, get home to prepare diner and take care of the kids and the home?), to be valued as a full time worker when we stay at home to raise the kids, and the list goes on. We still have work to do. Hilary could give us a second breath, that little push we need to get ourselves in gear again.

But my virtual vote (since I cannot vote in the U.S.) goes to Obama. Not only because he comes from a minority that has hugely contributed to the growth and success of the United States that has been repressed for years; not only because this minority needs a powerful leader to inspire them (because like women, I feel that in many cases they are sitting on their laurels, not fighting enough to get what they deserve); but because Obama’s life path has been to listen, organize and unite. That’s what he did in Chicago when he was a community organizer and that’s how he first got elected as a Senator. He brings hope that the U.S. will be a better world player. He brings hope that politics will not be about personal agendas anymore, but about organizing and uniting. He has the strength, the humility, the integrity and the intelligence to be a good leader. I believe he can do it.

Go Obama!
